ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of the exchange bias (EB) phenomenon in the ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic bilayers (FM/AFM). One can also obtain the inhomogeneous magnetization in the FM film in the case of the geometrical frustration on the EB phenomenon and the hysteresis loops features. Inhomogeneity of the FM film magnetization in a plane parallel to the interface can be associated with various reasons. In the simplest case, the AFM can consist of the domains with different directions of the magnetization which yields the appearance of the inhomogeneous structures in the FM in the interface plane. The exchange interaction through the interface in experiments is so weak that it is possible to assume magnetic interaction only for small quantities of the atoms on the interface. With the increase of the FM film thickness, the magnetization curves become close to the ones obtained in the continuum approximation.
