ABSTRACT

This chapter explores advanced remanufacturing to order model that can be used to ensure that the sensor-embedded products in the End-of-use products (EOUP) are properly implemented. The role of the Internet of Things is to mitigate the complexity of the planning process that EOUPs require due to the uncertainty of their condition. The chapter examines the impact of offering renewing warranties on remanufactured products. It considers the reliability improvement warranty and outlines assumptions and notations and describes preventative maintenance analysis and shows that warranty formulation. All the information stored in the tags, such as location, warranty terms, serial numbers, and beginning-of-life and middle-of-life information, can be accessed to provide insight into the best recovery process for the specific product. The basic idea of a reliability improvement warranty is to extend the notion of a basic consumer warranty to include guarantees on the reliability of the remanufactured item and not just on its immediate or short-term performance.
