ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses two types of bi-objective environmentally friendly and economical disassembly parts selection by using goal programming so as to maximize the CO2 saving or recycling rates while minimizing the recycling costs. It describes the procedures of the environmentally friendly and economical disassembly parts selection and formulates the bi-objective disassembly parts selection by goal programming. The chapter illustrates a numerical example using a cell phone and compares the results of the two types of bi-objective disassembly parts selection. Disassembly parts selection is conducted to retrieve material value from end-of-life products in an environmentally friendly and economical way. To harmonize environmental and economic objectives for disassembly parts selection, environmental objectives are required. The depletion of natural resources has become more serious, because the demand for natural resources is increasing as world population growth and economic development cause increasing demand for products and services.
