ABSTRACT
The GlobalSoilMap project aims to produce a digital soil map of the world both covering the entire world and delivering fine resolution information. In this introductory paper, we provide a brief history of the project and of its pivotal moments. We describe the specificities of the GlobalSoilMap products and its main achievements. Several countries have already produced products according to the Global-SoilMap specifications and the project is rejuvenating soil survey and mapping in many parts of the world.
