ABSTRACT

In this study, the mechanical response of a double-parameter foundation with different moduli under the temperature effect was investigated. In addition, the position of the neutral axis and strain differential equations were established. Then, an expression for the stress, deflection, and bending moment of the beam placed on the foundation was derived. On the basis of the calculation results from different-modulus theories, we compare the diversity with the classical modulus solution. For the concrete material widely used in road and bridge engineering, it is worth mentioning that relative to the classical same-modulus theory, the maximum inaccuracy of tension stress increased by 26%. However, cracks and damage on the pavement are common in practical engineering, which may be due to the neglecting of the bimodulus characteristic of the foundation beam. Therefore, we propose several reasonable optimal design suggestions for practical engineering.
