ABSTRACT
:Knitted garments are nowadays an unavoidable product for users of any age, covering any type of use. The use of knitwear is increasingly present in all types of clothing, be it classic or sporty, and gains more and more space in the user’s wardrobes thanks to its multi-level comfort features.
The knitted material is a complex textile surface that brings together in its making, the technical capacity of the one who produces it, the characteristics of the raw material used and the capacity to perceive the best result that may better serve its intended needs.
Knitwear has been part of many world cultures due to its ability to create constantly new surface structures and its great adaptability to the users’ body. Even today, knitwear is being massively used and reinterpreted in its intrinsic relationship with casual dress, active wear and sportswear. Its close relationship with technology makes knit an ever-innovating fabric that can answer the present day productive and usage challenges.
The aim of this paper is to propose an integrated reading of the different elements that compose this textile material, and the reasons that drive its use, through the opposition of different authors who, as a whole, can offer a more careful reading of this material that always had the capacity to reinvent itself over time.
