ABSTRACT

74The development of life in all forms is dependent on agriculture since civilization. The coevolution between plant and microbes can be best explained by a group of unique microbes termed as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) that show antagonistic and synergistic interactions between microorganisms, soil and plants. Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria are an essential group of microorganisms that boost the growth rate of plants directly or indirectly. Different modes of action of PGPR in plant growth and development have been conceptualized but, the role of the PGPR as bio-fertilizer for sustainable agriculture is still procrastinated. However, with the development of advance techniques such as nano-encapsulation and microencapsulation, the efficacy of PGPR has been greatly improved in agricultural sustainability. Hence, this chapter provides brief information on sustainable agriculture by PGPR using different advance approaches.
