ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence tools will dramatically enhance the capabilities of propagandists to create pliable realities and influence human minds. This chapter provides an overview of these emerging artificial intelligence tools and describes how they can be used to manipulate people. These AI-enhanced machine driven communication tools (MADCOMs) imply three possible futures, ranging from constant information conflict to cycles of competition to the emergence of cognitive security states – all of which are discussed below. This chapter also suggested potential responses to the coming MADCOM future for organizations, governments, and individuals. Our preparation and responses to the emergence of AI-enabled communications will likely determine the fate of democratic civilization.
