ABSTRACT

152Black cumin is a rich source of basic as well as bioactive components having considerable health-promoting potential. Among various bioactive moieties, thymoquinone (TQ) is the major component. Based on literature, it is suggested that dietary components such as black cumin bioactive ingredients are being exploited as a therapeutic agent because they are economical, effective, and practical to reduce the risk associated with life-threatening disorders. Further studies are still required to explore the effects of black cumin extracts on the overall health of humans. Bioevaluation trial is a useful tool to investigate the effect of functional ingredients in mitigating various disorders owing to health-promoting potential such as antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hypocholesterolemic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer perspectives. Furthermore, its role in boosting immune system needs further investigations.
