192In view of continuing the legacy of traditional medicine in human health, this chapter presents a review on the various therapeutic uses of the medicinal mushroom, Ganoderma lucidum along with the major bioactive constituents that contribute towards its medicinal effects. G. lucidum possesses a wide array of pharmaceutical properties such as: anticarcinogenic, antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal), antioxidant, and antitumorigenic properties, which could be attributed to the presence of fatty acids, nucleotides, peptides, polysaccharides, proteins, steroids, sterols, terpenoids, and so forth.
