ABSTRACT

In this chapter the story of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich is brought to its conclusion. It covers the Astronomers Royal who followed Airy at Greenwich: Sir William Henry Mahoney Christie, Sir Frank Dyson, Sir Harold Spencer Jones, and Richard van der Riet Woolley, who oversaw the completion of the move of the Observatory to Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex. It also looks at other mathematical astronomers who worked at Greenwich in the twentieth century.
