John is an XYZ customer. On XYZ’s mainframe is a file on John, as well as files on more than 5 million other XYZ customers. This file contains details on all John’s purchases from the company over the last 5 years. It also contains data on his income, his profession, details about his family, the car he drives, credit cards he uses, and more than 40 other categories of information.
