With ethylene oxide, toxicological problems may be encountered due to residual amounts of the agent that are retained in the product.
Independent of the degradation mechanism, one should keep in mind that a reduction in polymer molecular weight may significantly influence drug release patterns. In vitro, a neuroleptic compound (CGP 19486) is released faster from D,L-PLA nanospheres after y-sterilization (Fig. 11) [30].
