One weakness of this configuration of mixers is that it is physically difficult to design the anchor such that it allows the placement of the high-shear mixer close to the bottom of the vessel. In addition, as shown in Fig. 25, a brace is usually required to strengthen the anchor, and this brace compounds the placement problem. This can be a serious limitation if emulsions are to be made, or if a low-volume phase must first be prepared in the vessel or, especially, if the inversion technique is to be used.
