ABSTRACT

Physical exercise plays an important role in the lives of all of us, whether or not we have diabetes. Not only does it provide the opportunity for recreation and improved quality of life, it is also one of the most important lifestyle variables affecting our longevity. Epidemiological studies have documented the strong relation between levels of physical activity and reduced rates of cardiovascular mortality in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Because macrovascular disease is the major cause of mortality in these individuals, exercise therapy plays a pivotal role in their health and well-being.
