ABSTRACT
This dispersal of care from the institution to the community places new demands on care staff. Patients are monitored in their own homes using simple monitoring devices and the resulting data must be collected and analyzed. Risk reduction technologies1 are being installed in homes, needing assessment and installation. Information systems make medical records available when and where they are needed.2 Other devices and systems enhance communication between vulnerable people, their friends, and their families.3
