This chapter describes the four major Federal environmental laws that place controls on the management of groundwater. These are:
• The Clean Water Act (CWA), based on the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (FWPCA) Amendments of 1972, Public Law 92-500, 42 U.S.C. §1251 et seq.1
