After a discussion of the demands solid catalysts have to meet, the distribution of the active component within support bodies adapted for different situations is discussed. Next, impregnation of support bodies with a solution of a precursor of the active component(s) is addressed. Adsorption of the active precursor on the surface of the support is distinguished from reaction of the (surface of the) support with the impregnated solution.
