ABSTRACT

Saikosaponin was detected among the plant organs in the order of the pericycle, periderm, phloem, and xylem. A variation in saikosaponins and a decrease in growth rate and other compounds were detected during the plant developmental stages. The negative correlation coefficient showed on the saikosaponin content mainly depended on the plant height, number of branches, number of peduncle, the length and width of leaf in Jeongsun population, but there was no significant difference among the characters of Mishima cultivar. To determine the distribution of saikosaponin content in different plant organs such as root, leaf, and stem, these were specially analyzed at the time of flowering on apex. The variation of saikosaponin content in different plant organs and the decreased ratio of content in Jeongsun were not detected in the components in the leaves and stems during the plant developmental stages.
