ABSTRACT

Digital asset management involves the creation, transfer, storage, and consumption of these assets. It is chiefly in the transfer function context that Digital Rights Management (DRM) becomes a major issue. Digital rights requirements vary with the kind of digital asset being transferred. Digital assets can possess different transaction values. Owners often want usage controls to be associated with the digital asset. The digital asset creation and delivery chain consists of creators, owners, distributors, and consumers. A digital asset may be jointly created by one or more creators. All participating creators would expect that their participation be provable to any party. A digital content may comprise many subcontents. The makeup, structure, and organization of the content or subcontent can be specified using eXtensible Markup Language -based declaration techniques. The chapter discusses the rights requirements of each party involved over the life cycle of the digital video. It describes various requirements for DRM stemming from asset management and usage controls needs.
