ABSTRACT
State departments of transportation (state DOTs) are responsible for the development and maintenance of state transportation systems, including air, highway, maritime, rail, and public transit modes. Each of the fi fty Unted States states has such a department, although the names and functions of some of these state agencies may be somewhat different.
