ABSTRACT

The automobile is a prime example of a practical and a useful invention. It is inextricably linked to our daily lives. Used for a variety of purposes ranging from transportation to entertainment, it has been taken for granted in this country. Uniquely enabling individuals to independently traverse immense distances, it has rendered society auto-centric. As a result, any changes in the policy governing the technology of this individualized mode of transport are of great importance not only in transportation, but also in land use planning and in the urban political economy.
