ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates how numerous quantitative techniques available in the literature can be employed to address the aforementioned primary challenges and solve a variety of decision-making problems identified in the design phase of reverse and closed-loop supply chains. It shows that different techniques can be employed to resolve some of the problems faced in different situations. Managers in many industries realize that the decisions made in each of the following three phases have a strong impact on the overall profitability and success of the respective businesses: supply chain design, supply chain planning and supply chain operation. The chapter reviews the literature that addresses decision-making problems in the design phase of reverse and closed-loop supply chains. It addresses decision making problems, where fuzzy logic is used in combination with other quantitative decision-making techniques. Environmentally conscious design involves the designing of products on the basis of certain environmental considerations.
