ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the author’s opinion on the drivers and need for alternative energy sources. First, global energy use is commented on, which serves as an indicator for available resources. In-depth commentary is provided on the opportunities for fuel cells as an alternative energy source, especially as a near-term potential replacement for rechargeable batteries. Potential for fuel cells in the military and as large-scale power plants is also discussed.
