ABSTRACT
Perfluoroalkylpolyether (PFPE) fluids were first synthesized by DuPont. The first applications were military/ aerospace in nature. Joint development efforts with the U.S. Military and NASA led to greases that were developed to take advantage of the high temperature lubricating abilities of the oils. Gumprecht [1] first disclosed the use of the perfluoroalkylpolyethers as lubricants in an ASLE/ASME lubrication conference in the fall of 1965.
