ABSTRACT

In recent years, the development of various methods for power transmission in automotive and truck applications has led to the need for fluids that can perform several essential functions within these transmissions. Production of continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) began a few years ago in automobiles and sport utility vehicles. The various existing transmission fluids, whether based on mineral oil or on synthetic hydrocarbons (PAO) have not to date demonstrated adequate performance in these transmissions, and especially in those CVTs that are based on full-toroidal or half-toroidal designs.
