ABSTRACT

A general characteristic of the aging process is a progressive, physiopathological deterioration of an organism with time. One probable cause for the biological phenomenon has been formulated as the oxidative stress of aging. According to this hypothesis, accumulated oxidatively altered cellular constituents, a disturbed redox balance, and weakened antioxidative

defense systems arise over time cause functional deficits, i.e., aging and age-related degenerative diseases (1,2).
