The World Wide Web has grown from the small ARPAnet network of the 1970s, devoted to document-sharing among a handful of universities and governmental agencies to today’s large
network of networks
serving millions of computers and users. It is, at the same time, a huge repository of information and a marketplace for commercial and financial transactions.
