ABSTRACT

Since computers were invented, mankind has lived in fear and fascination of these devices. In the entertainment media, computers have been elevated to a god-head status, imbued with an advanced and slightly sinister intelligence. In reality, they are just machines which execute programmed instructions. These machines require maintenance and proper operating environments, just like a car or lawn mower. When networks lack these care-taking measures, they eventually cease to function. This chapter makes some suggestions on how best to resolve server and network problems.
