ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a study of the tangible economic impact of an electronic medical record (EMR) system on five ambulatory clinics. The goal of the study was to objectively quantify the benefits of an EMR system for practice administrators of small-to medium-sized ambulatory clinics. This study did not include intangible benefits of an EMR in the financial analysis. Any specific value cited in this study should not be considered definitive, but rather as a representative value to serve as benchmarks for any ambulatory practice wishing to assess its own potential return from EMR implementation.
