ABSTRACT

On January 27, 1999, Bill Gates presented the keynote address at an advanced technology symposium at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. In that presentation, Mr. Gates stated, “Speech recognition will become a standard part of the interface to a computer system, creating an entirely new paradigm.” This is indeed an impressive statement coming from the person who significantly influences the direction of the computer industry. This chapter examines the broad spectrum of speech technology as applied to medical systems.
