ABSTRACT

Indexing provides a way to realize optimal benefits with minimal investment in new technologies or equipment. Inverted indexing delivers the broadest range of function and flexibility for ad hoc data access and analysis. Inverted index retrievals remain the more efficient and flexible option. Inverted indexing and relational indexes can perform lookups on a combination of columns. Bit-map indexing has been targeted to be most effective for low cardinality data. Specialized indexes provide new and improved solutions to the high-performance needs of decision support data access. In addition, by providing feedback to the user on the size of their request before data is retrieved, client/server network traffic is minimized. With client/server connections, middleware connectivity tools, and networking, Indexed Sequential has solved the second hurdle of providing universal access: users are online and can request information through a relatively intuitive graphical environment.
