ABSTRACT
Step 1 Eliminate any cause that may cause fluid retention. Then, initiate intravenous furosemide 20-80 mg IV

1 based on patient’s fluid status and blood pressure.
Monitor urine output for the next 6 h (goal urine output: >60 ml/h) Step 2 If response is desirable, repeat furosemide dose every 6-12 h if necessary,
targeting for daily decrease in weight of 0.5-1 kg daily (may be more aggressive based on patient’s fluid status).
