ABSTRACT
California is known for the diversity and importance of its environmental resources. It is a large state with a landmass of about 100 million acres, about the same as that of Japan. California also has a current population of approximately 30 million people, which is growing rapidly and which will double in size in about 30 years. The state also has an important agricultural sector that includes substantial livestock production.
