ABSTRACT
I am a cattle rancher from Susanville, CA, a small rural community in the remote northeast corner of our state. I would like first to briefly touch on rangelands in California, and what ranchers are doing to better manage the animals that are grazing these lands. Then I would like to broaden the subject and share with you my observation on the changing social fabric that defines the rural west, and how this change may affect the environment and the structure of the ranching industry.
