ABSTRACT
The possible threat of toxic compounds to ecosystems has elicited a request by society to science, to derive “safe” ambient concentrations for protection of ecosystems and methods to assess ecological risks. Although this societal request is difficult to answer for many reasons, one major difficulty is the estimation of effects on diverse species and ecosystems. This book focuses on the variation in species sensitivities to toxicant exposure, and on a specific method to address this variation.
