ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on various investigations made on photoluminescence and electroluminescence properties. It discusses some important results of some other luminescence phenomena like cathodoluminescence and thermoluminescence. The chapter covers preparational methods of materials in different forms along with applications and future scope. The excess of zinc could be incorporated either in the interstitial positions or at the normal lattice sites with the formation of an equivalent amount of anion vacancies. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a versatile material because of its usefulness in various devices such as opto-electronic, solar cells, electro-photography and surface acoustic wave devices. The nanocrystallites of ZnO show two emission bands, one being an ultraviolet emission band and the other a visible emission band.
