ABSTRACT

The liquid crystal–spatial light modulators are one of the most valuable devices from the point of view of easy handling, good reliability and large pixel capacity, based on liquid crystal display technologies. Active matrix addressing is widely used in display devices, which are integrated active electrical elements such as thin film transistor, liquid crystal on silicon, thin film diode (TFD) and metal insulator metal. The TFD and metal insulator metal are two-terminal active elements, which work as elements switching between charge and discharge of the pixel. Liquid crystal (LC) material has a large dielectric and refractive index anisotropy. This permits thin-film devices with longitudinal field effects to be made. In the case of a high-density pixel, the effect is strongly affected by the lateral field effect. LC displays are two-dimensional amplitude modulation as light intensity. Usually they employ micro red, green and blue colour filters for colour reproduction.
