ABSTRACT

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted from manufacturing the multitude of consumer products used every day. In most manufacturing processes, either for the raw materials, intermediates, or the finished product, VOC-containing materials are present as chemicals, solvents, release agents, coatings, and decomposition products that eventually must be disposed. In such manufacturing, there is usually a large volume of gaseous effluent that contains dilute concentrations of VOCs that is vented into the atmosphere. Costeffective technologies for disposal of VOCs are being sought by government and industry.
