ABSTRACT

Registration between two-(2-D) or three-dimensional (3-D) images is a common problem encountered when more than one image of the same anatomical structure is obtained, but taken at different times, either when using different imagery or when performing dynamic studies. In all cases, the information present in the different images must be combined to produce fused or parametric images. For efficient fusion of information, the different images have to be registered. Several registration and fusion techniques have been proposed in the literature, with varying degrees of user intervention, and the most representative will be discussed in this chapter.
