Two major issues play a role in manual assembly operations: increasing productivity and increasing health. For a company, it is essential to have efficient operations (Yamada 2002). Handling operations such as searching and walking add only a limited

value to the product and should be avoided, and the handlings involved in making the product should be as short as possible (Yamada 2002). Work should be healthful, and stress and musculoskeletal injuries should be prevented (Yamada 2002).
