Based on classical taxonomy, the genus

has been divided into two subgenera,
Glycine
and
Soja
(Moench) F.J. Herm. Subgenus
Glycine
currently consists of 22 wild perennial species, and all the diploid (2
n =
40) species are indigenous to Australia and associated areas (Table 8.1).
