ABSTRACT
The power of public perception cannot be overestimated. As Abraham Lincoln once stated, “Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it, nothing can succeed.”
For biomedical progress to continue, the public needs to understand science and support research with laboratory animals. Fortunately, most people will support the humane use of animals in the quest for treatments and cures if they are given an honest portrayal of biomedical research. The key is to reach the public with accurate information on the necessity, value, and humane nature of animal-based studies.
