Microemulsion was first introduced when conventional emulsion was transformed to transparent solution after the addition of a co-surfactant [1-3]. Ever since, microemulsions have been used in several fields of industry. The first articles about the potential use of microemulsions as topical formulations were published in the 1980s [4, 5]. During the past few decades microemulsions have attracted a lot of interest in cutaneous drug delivery since the importance of their drug delivery potential, compared to conventional topical formulations, was realized.
