ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concept of trustworthy pervasive services for enabling next generation E-logistics, the key enabler for improving and streamlining logistics operations. It focuses on security for mutual trust and data dependability aspects of pervasive service trustworthiness. The chapter presents mutual authentication protocols for mutual trust establishment and a collaborative model for data dependability resolving data collision problems in pervasive service environments. The pervasive logistics services mechanisms will eventually allow dynamic and cost-effective creation of interconnections of disparate logistics network systems and processes resulting in improved efficiency in networks and applications development and deployment. Pervasive logistics services are often based on Service-Oriented Architecture, an architecture supporting the evolution of system development and easy integration of new and legacy systems. Radio frequency identification technology, the pervasive infrastructure enabler for global supply chain visibility, is predicted to revolutionize the modern supply chain and logistics operations.
