ABSTRACT

Low-cost Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a method of remotely storing and receiving data using devices called RFID tags. This chapter provides a brief overview of RFID, the most standards related to this technology. It addresses both the risks and a threat associated with the RFID security and analyzes the solutions proposed to date and their effectiveness. RFID technology is quickly evolving with improved efficiency in the supply chain, logistics, and inventory control. The growing RFID security concern is one of the most pressing concerns for RFID executives. A RFID executive knows the stakes are high and the threats that inhabit RFID infrastructure will decelerate his business. RFID systems are completely dependent on the unambiguous identication of the tagged items by the transponders. A great deal of research and development is currently under way in the RFID security field to mitigate both known and postulated risks.
