ABSTRACT

A heat exchanger is an equipment which transfers thermal energy between two or more fluids. Heat exchangers are used in various industries for a wide range of applications. In the noncontact type heat exchangers, the product is physically separated from the heating or cooling medium. Steam injection and steam infusion are examples of contact heat exchangers. The term convection refers to the transfer of heat within liquids or through a solid–fluid interface. Free convection occurs when a solid surface comes in contact with fluid at different temperature. Density differences in the fluid arising from heating provide the buoyancy force required to move the fluid. Several types of heat exchangers are used for heating or cooling products. The most common noncontact type of heat exchanger is the double tube heat exchanger. It consists of a tube located concentrically inside another tube of larger diameter. A slightly modified version of the double tube heat exchanger is the triple tube heat exchanger.
