ABSTRACT

Operating in the license-exempt IEEE 802.16 wireless spectrum is a challenging research issue. The research focus is on deriving intelligent algorithms to mitigate the interference that occurs between different users. In this chapter, we propose an enhancement to our previously published distributed approach to mitigate interference between 802.16 systems operating in close proximity, by introducing a re-listening mechanism to determine whether there are more subcarriers available in the channel than what the base stations (BSs) are currently using.
