ABSTRACT

Undoubtedly, seamless transportation is the key to our societal and economical sustainability. The efficient, safe, cost-effective movement of people and goods is so fundamental to our daily lives that we tend to take the transportation system for granted until it fails in some way. Despite this, modern societies have under-invested in public infrastructure of all types for decades. Nowhere is this more the case than in transportation. Therefore, it is imperative that modern societies upgrade their transportation systems to remain competitive in the global market and to maintain the high quality of life and social well-being that we rightly prize so highly.
