ABSTRACT

Distinctions between real science and mere collections of technical artistry, today politely referred to as multidisciplinary efforts, often appear arbitrary and unprincipled (Nordby, 1995). Many theoretical physicists, for example, enjoy disparaging mere applications of science, much as many sequestered academics eschew applications of pure science to practical problems, dismissing such efforts as mere technology unworthy of scholarly assessment (Cartwright and Nordby, 1983).
